Off Topic - Windows X ( 10 ) Heads up - Better than Windows 8.x

The ACE  8 August 2015 04:14:19 PM
So I have had my first user experience with Windows X - other might call it Windows 10.

First impression, better than Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 8.x, but only because the 'Start' button has returned - this is from the user experience. I personally like Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8.x which as most people know shared the new, well now old UI, because I am very happy to use the keyboard I found what Microsoft call the 'Metro' interface very easy to use.

If you are a real serious mouse user you will find 'Metro' a challenge, but, if you were thinking about staying with Windows 8.x and do not enjoy the 'Metro' interface go straight to Windows X.

You will get the 'Start' button back !!!

What is spam ? - Why scanning email spam will never work

The ACE  24 July 2015 11:42:57 AM
I recently had a staff member ask me a very interesting and possibly counter intuitive question "What is Spam ?"

If your answer is the same as mine "I cant tell you what it is because it is a on going bad experience for a lot of people" - luckily not for us or our customers.

After I thought about this it dawned on me that this is why NSA - No Spam Accepted is predicated on the correct design decisions.

Further, here is how to prove that the scanning of email after the message has been accepted by the email server will never work and as anyone who 'understand' spam will tell you.

When you talk with companies that provide email scanning software they regularly slip in the phrase "Maintenance Contact" - because the customer needs to have their scanning signatures updated over & over & over because the signatures used to scan the emails are out of date on a daily basis.

Imagine having to take you car into the mechanic on a daily basis, no other industry except ICT can get away with these revenue generating tactics.

It is the old IBM account management approach of FUD ( Fear , Uncertainty , Doubt ) approach, you scare the customer into action.

NSA - No Spam Accepted - waste their time

The ACE  31 October 2014 08:43:59 PM
This was our experience with kickstart - not much

Your project title and blurb should be simple, specific and memorable. Our search tools run through these sections of your project, so be sure to incorporate any key words here!

Project title

We have developed No Spam Accepted (NSA) over more than 5 years and the design of this system guarantees that we do not accept spam. Due to the amount of traffic our servers receive day in day out we are not happy to detail how we achieve this in this forum. We get a lot of wannabie's come a knocking :)

Over the years one of our blogs http://blog.ozitsecurity.com.au has been visited by hackers as you can read about on the blog who are very annoyed at not being able to deliver their pay loads. Yes the system does not accept store and then analyse spam for content it blocks spammers in real time. The hackers have download the whole blog over & over & over and when we add any new entry to the blog it is hit almost immediately. I guess they are hoping we will brag about how we are able to determine they are spammers.

How do we know they are hackers, well we have a list of all the IPV4 address allocations and from the monitoring of the inbound traffic we know that domains like 162.com, hinet.net, ovh.net and vnn.vn to name just a few that we have seen over the years trying to relay mail or deliver spam to our servers.

One of the ten commandments of NSA is that it does not provide a 'great' service to spammers. So we are attempting to waste as much time of these as we can !!!

Short blurb

We are looking to migrate our  No Spam Accepted (NSA) system from IBM software written in C to a Zimbra add-on.

Funding Duration

Funding duration can not be changed after you launch your project.

Your project ends on Sun, Dec 21 2014 10:38 AM ACDT
We recommend setting a funding duration of 30 days or less. Shorter durations tend to have higher success rates. Once your project has launched, it won’t be possible to change your funding duration. For more tips, check out the Creator Handbook.
Note: After your project ends, there is a 14-day window for collecting and processing pledges. After that, funds will be transferred to your bank account. Please plan accordingly.

Funding goal
(Can not be changed after you launch your project.)

$82,500 AUD
Your funding goal should be the minimum amount needed to complete the project and fulfill all rewards. Because funding is all-or-nothing, you can always raise more than your goal but never less.
If your project is successfully funded, the following fees will be collected from your funding total: Kickstarter's 5% fee, and payment processing fees (between 3% and 5%). If funding isn't successful, there are no fees.

Risks and challenges

We see the biggest risk as the method we use to reject the spam leaking out into the public domain and thus giving the spammers a vector to try and get around our methods.

As NSA has been in production for more than 5 years we know the design is solid as it has been time tested, but the code is procedural C not C++ and we would like to 'refresh' the code base when we move to Zimbra, so obviously we would be introducing 'issues' as we move to the new platform.

What is ItIs.NU (New)

The ACE  7 July 2013 01:24:47 PM
We started ItIs.NU (NEW) because we could not find a site that allowed us to post details about an item (Shinny Stuff) we wanted to buy and have been trying to organise a deal for it.

As we worked away at ItIs.NU we came up with other cool ideas of how we could use the system to do many other tynigs with our new shinny stuff.

- Keep a list of our assets for insurance
- Track our warrantys
- Private / Reverse Group purchases
- Find someone who wanted to buy our pre-loved items
- Haggle for a better deal by advertising the purchase
- Swap cool ideas of how to 'Hack' our5 shinny stuff
- Have a central portal to manage quotes
- Tell others about a great of not so good service you have received

The marvy thing about ItIs.NU is that you can update or system from Twitter and Facebook or update Twitter and Facebook from our systems with a SMS or email.

Welcome to ItIs.NU (NEW), this site will allow you to easily manage all your shinny stuff

The ACE  4 February 2012 02:30:21 PM
Welcome to ItIs.NU (NEW), this site will allow you to easily manage all you shinny stuff

You can us SMS or email to update ItIs.NU which can then update Twitter and Facebook from our system about a cool ideas of how to 'Hack' our shinny stuff, manage quotes, maintain a list of assets for insurance, help you claim a warranty return, advertise that you are selling a pre-loved item/s, haggle for a better deal by advertising the purchaser as a Private / Reverse Group purchase and tell others about a great of not so good service you have received
